Faith and belief is the sole reason for the sustenance of mankind. Since time immemorial, men have tried to solve complex mysteries rationally using logic. But the dawn of the latest technology and science has failed to unlock several baffling secrets and unexplainable phenomena. What remains are speculation, hypothesis and a niche of preserved ideas understood by small esoteric groups, with a taste for unusual and rare interests. And the best part about esotericism – the fact that it expands into Alchemy, Anthroposophy, Magic, Christian Mysticism, Astrology and Rosicrucianism. In fact, several uncanny and surreal incidents over the ages have been associated with the esoteric explanation and perspective.
One such phenomenon, which stormed up the entire scientific and geologist community, and captivated the attention of millions of humans around the globe, was the discovery of the Crop Circles. During the first half of the 1970s, people tried to rationally justify the presence of such massive geometric diagrams and designs on crop fields. Some related it to Alien visits in the distant past. In fact, the Crop Circles were considered to be imprints of flying saucers, colloquially popular as UFOs, during their nocturnal tryst. The designs, till today, lack concrete logic which can signify their enormity and preciseness.
The Mayan calendar also has its share of esoteric culture. It is a common belief amongst millions of individuals across the world that the Mayan calendar can actually foretell the annihilation of mankind and Earth, which is supposedly going to happen sometime on 21st, December, 2012, probably because the Mayan calendar cycle ends on that day. But again, the true meaning of Mayan calendar is still under the wraps, as symbologists and historians struggle to decipher the real identity and nature of such sophisticated tools built during the early stages of civilization.
Then there is one of the greatest prophesiers and analysts in the history of humankind – Nostradamus. His researches and predictions have also attracted esoteric point-of-view throughout the world. Starting from the Great Fire of London to the French Revolution, from the rise of Hitler to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and from the failed Challenger mission to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, Nostradamus actually scripted some of the most fascinating prophecies. It is the sole success of these predictions that Nostradamus’ writings and volumes are still being sold in the market as esoteric texts.
Esotericism surely doesn’t abide by a single traditional, and is scattered amongst vast arrays of often unrelated movements and figures. What accounts for its intriguing nature is the lack of single historical thread under them. While the development of one’s esoteric emphasis may sway between historical significance and scholarly sense, its presence will never seize to mesmerize and captivate people’s minds. Although the truth may have been lost for the good amidst the deep dark secret of false belief and faith, esotericism is the only sane way to judge unrealistic phenomenon and provide a proper judgment, as far as the doubts are concerned.
